BIG UPDATE: Goodbye to this Social Security check in September – The list of retirees who will not receive the money
According to Lagradaonline, As September 2024 approaches, some Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will notice a slight change in their usual payment schedule. Due to a planned modification in the timetable, September SSI payments were distributed early, on Friday, August 30. Following this, the next SSI check will be sent on October 1st.
SSI is a Social Security program designed to assist Americans with low or no income who are blind, disabled, or over 65 years old and have limited financial resources. As of July 2024, approximately 7.4 million people were receiving SSI benefits, with an average monthly payment of $696.
Early SSI Payments for September 2024
Normally, SSI benefits are distributed on the first of each month. However, since September 1st falls on a Sunday in 2024, payments were scheduled for the preceding business day, Friday, August 30. This adjustment ensures that recipients still receive their full September benefits, though the payment date is slightly earlier than usual.
This scheduling change will also occur in December and January when the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. In these instances, the payments will be made on the last business day of the prior month — November 29th for December and December 31st for January.
Regular Social Security Payments in September 2024
For those receiving both Social Security and SSI benefits, or who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, there will be no changes to the regular payment schedule. Social Security checks will be distributed as usual, with payments based on the recipient’s birth date:
- September 11 for birthdays between the 1st and 10th
- September 18 for birthdays between the 11th and 20th
- September 25 for birthdays between the 21st and 31st

Social Security Payment Amounts for September
The amount beneficiaries receive in their Social Security payments varies depending on several factors, including their full retirement age, work history, Social Security contributions, income, and resources. For those receiving SSI or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), the payment amount also depends on the nature of their disability and financial circumstances.
Upcoming Changes to the SSI Application Process
In addition to the changes in the payment schedule, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to implement a streamlined online SSI application process. Starting in December 2024, the SSA will offer an enhanced online application for certain individuals, aiming to make the process faster and more user-friendly.

According to Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley, “the SSA is committed to achieving that vision over the next few years.” Initially, the new system, known as the “iClaim expansion,” will be available to first-time, single applicants between the ages of 18 and 65 applying for both Social Security and SSI simultaneously. The SSA plans to expand this system to all applicants by the end of next year.
These changes are part of the SSA’s broader effort to make the application process more accessible for those who rely on these essential benefits.
