If you’re unsure when your check will arrive, we’ve got you covered with the full pay schedule for September 2024 and answers to common questions about your benefit payments. If you haven’t received your August payment yet, find out what steps to take if your Social Security check is missing.

When Will I Receive My Social Security Check?

Social Security payments are made based on the day of the month you were born and when you started receiving benefits. Here’s the payment schedule for September 2024:

  • For those who started receiving Social Security before May 1997: September 3
  • For birthdays between the 1st and 10th: September 11
  • For birthdays between the 11th and 20th: September 18
  • For birthdays between the 21st and 31st: September 25

How is My Social Security Payment Date Determined?

Social Security payments are typically issued starting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, with the remaining payments following on the subsequent Wednesdays. The specific week you receive your payment is determined by your birthdate:

  • Birthdates between the 1st and 10th: 2nd Wednesday of the month
  • Birthdates between the 11th and 20th: 3rd Wednesday of the month
  • Birthdates between the 21st and 31st: 4th Wednesday of the month

Will I Receive Other Government Benefits on the Same Day?

For those who received Social Security benefits before May 1997, or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the payment schedule is consistent and not based on your birthdate. Social Security payments are sent out on the 3rd of each month, while SSI payments are sent on the 1st. These dates may shift if they fall on a weekend or holiday. For example, March payments were sent out early due to the weekend.

The only benefits that follow the same schedule are Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

What If I Didn’t Receive My Social Security Check?

If your check is delayed or missing, the Social Security Administration recommends waiting three additional mailing days before contacting them. After this period, you can call the national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213. The SSA notes that wait times are generally shorter in the morning, later in the week, and later in the month.

If you’re having difficulty reaching the SSA through the national number, you can use their office locator to find a local office for assistance.
